On a global scale:

• There is an estimated 27 million slaves in the world today. (Free the Slaves)

• In 2007, Slaver Traders made eight times the amount of the annual UN budget. (Call and Response)
• Last year, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike, and Starbucks combined (Call and Response)
• After drug trafficking, human trafficking is tied with the illegal arms trade as the second largest criminal industry in the world, and is the fastest growing. (Health and Human Services)
• Approximately 800,000 to 900,000 victims are trafficked annually across international borders worldwide. (U.S. Department of State)
• Today, the average price of an individual slave is $90. (Free the Slaves)
• Each year, more than 1 million children are exploited in the global commercial sex trade. (Australian Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission)

 

Here in the United States:

•  The United States is the second highest destination area in the world for trafficked women. (United Nations)
• Cases of sex trafficking have been reported in all 50 states and in more than 90 cities in the United States. (United Nations)
• The majority of transnational victims are trafficked into commercial sexual exploitation. (U.S. Department of State)
• Between 18,000 and 20,000 victims trafficked into United States annually. (U.S. Department of State)
• In the United States alone, it is estimated that there are 200,000 slaves.
• Victims trafficked into the U.S. have come from Africa, Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Russia, and Canada and many other locations. (Health and Human Services)
• 13 is the average age of entry into pornography and prostitution in the USA. (FBI)
• 100,000 to 300,000 children in America are at risk for sex trafficking each year.
• As many as 2.8 million children live on the streets, a third of whom are lured into prostitution within 48 hours of leaving home.  (Shared Hope International)
• The average age of entry into prostitution is 12-14. (Shared Hope International)
